Vs 16-21  Israel forsook Rehoboam and followed after Jeroboam as their King. Rehoboam only ruled over Judah (and Benjamin). Vs 22-24 Rehoboam was going to fight Jeroboam and Israel to bring them to himself again. A prophet said they should not fight against their brothers. This was his will. He split the kingdom for David, because Solomon went after the gods of other nations. Vs 36-33 Jeroboam in his fear that Israel would return to worship with Judah made gods for his people to worship, built up high places, and made priests of people who were not of the tribe of Lehi. https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/scriptures/ot/1-kgs/13?lang=eng Jeroboam is smitten and then healed by a prophet from Judah—The prophet delivers his message, is led astray...

Come Follow Me 27: 1 Kings 17-19

Come Follow Me Lesson 17: 1 Kings 17-19 Introduction “If the Lord Be God, Follow Him” When you read the scriptures, you are exercising faith, which prepares your heart and mind to hear the “still small voice” of the Spirit ( 1 Kings 19:12 ). How can we keep our own lives connected with the Lord and our homes dedicated to Him? How can we keep the covenant effective and valuable in our lives? How does the condition of our Country parallel the condition of the House of Israel and the House of Judah at this time? How does spiritual stability keep you grounded? Why is it important to have strong leadership that values spiritual stability? What happens when leadership violates covenants and/or commandments from God? What happened in the Northern Kingdom? What did King Ahab encourage the people to do? (worship false god Baal.)  Owing to the influence of Ahab and Jezebel, the people had almost entirely forsaken the worship of Jehovah and had become worshippers of the P...

Come Follow Me 26: 2 Samuel 5–7; 11–12; 1 Kings 3; 8; 11

Come Follow Me Lesson 26: 2 Samuel 5-7; 11-12; 1 Kings, 3; 8; 11 Introduction “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness” ( 2 Timothy 3:16 ). The accomplishments of David as a boy, as a young man, as a leader of the Israelite army and a servant of King Saul and as a king himself were numerous and remarkable. He was a man of great faith and did many great things. How we mourn for David, that he gave way to temptation and fell so far, is how we should feel about all our brothers and sisters. We all have great potential. We are all children of God. We should all have each other’s backs and help each other along. We should do what we can to not hinder our own progress or anyone else’s. David lost spiritual power when he gave into temptation. Have you witnessed that in others? Have you experienced that yourself? Solomon also started out as both a strong political and spirit...

Vs 5-7 Absalom's brother Adonijah also thinks he's all it. Unfortunately, Joab followed after and supported Adonijah. Vs 8-14 The prophet Nathan wants to insure that Solomon is the next king, not Adonijah. Vs 28-31 David receives counself from Bathsheba and Nathan and acts immediate to pronounce Solomon as king. Vs 32-40 Solomon is anointed king. Vs 48-53 When Adonijah hears that Solomon is king, he is afraid for his life because he was an usurper. Solomon set him free at this time. https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/scriptures/ot/1-kgs/2?lang=eng David charges Solomon to keep the commandments and walk in the ways of the Lord—Ki...
