Come Follow Me 13: Exodus 1-6
Come Follow Me Lesson 13: Exodus 1-6
Introduction:
The new Pharaoh didn’t know or care for Joseph or his family. The Pharaoh in Joseph’s day had respect for Joseph and for Joseph’s God. Not only did Joseph’s interpretations and visions save his household, but also the Pharaoh’s and Egypt’s and many peoples.
The Israelites probably wondered if God had forgotten and forsaken them. But, had they forgotten and foraken God?
When troubles occur do I turn to God? Do I also turn to him in prosperity and peace?
We need to remember that our loving Heavenly Father will never forget or forsake us. Are we sanctifying ourselves? (see Doctrine and Covenants 88:68) Do we remember that the Lord has delivered us, and do we have faith that He will yet deliver us?
What bondage do you need to be released from? (See Exodus 6:6–7)
From the Bible Dictionary, “The book of Exodus thus gives the early history of the nation in three clearly marked stages: first, a nation enslaved; then a nation redeemed; lastly, a nation set apart and, through the blending of its religious and political life, consecrated to the service of God.”

Deuteronomy 18:18–19; 1 Nephi 22:20–21 How did Moses’s mission and ministry point the people towards Jesus Christ. What were Mose’s word to the people concerning Jesus?
Exodus 1:22–2:10; Matthew 2:13–16 Moses’s and Jesus’s missions as prophets and deliverers of the people were so important, that Satan did not want them to be able to realize their missions; he tried to thwart the purposes of the Lord. In so doing, Pharaoh and Herod had all the male babies killed, thinking they could rid the world of Moses and Jesus.
Exodus 2:15–22; Matthew 4:1–2 Both of them prepared for their ministries by going into the wilderness to be with God and fasting forty days and nights.

Vs 13-14: So they put them into hard labor.

So Moses’s own mother got to continue to have him until he was weaned. He became the adopted son of Pharaoh’s daughter, who called him Moses, because she drew him out of the water.

Whom the Lord Calls, He Qualifies
Like many other prophets, Moses didn’t feel like he was the right one for the job. How has the Lord blessed you in your callings to be able to do more than you ever thought you could?
Moses 1:1–10, 24–39; 6:31–39, 47 God knows our potential. When he gifts us a calling, it shows he puts trust in us. When we ask Him for help and accept to do His will, we show trust in Him. (Moses and Enoch were called.)
Have you experienced God doing His work through you? Have you seen God working through others?

3:1–6.
Moses
was asked to remove his sloes from his feet.
How do you show respect and reverence for holy places?
What do the signs that the Lord asked Moses to show the children of Israel teach us about Jesus Christ?
Vs 6 Jesus identified Himself as the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Moses hid his face.
Why does the Lord call prophets?
The Lord told Moses that he saw the afflictions of His people, and He
was come down to deliver them from Moses. The Lord’s role is to
make intercession for His children. He calls prophets in all
dispensations to teach his children the gospel, so that we might gain
salvation through faith in Him.
Moses was called to
deliver the children of Israel. It is the Lord that would deliver
them, but Moses was called to be the Lord’s prophet.
Vs 11 Moses Question: Who am I?
Vs 12 The Lord’s
answer: Certainly, I will be with thee.
Vs 14 Jesus is the great “I Am”

The Lord spoke to Moses from a burning bush. Moses was asked to
take off his shoes.

Exodus 4: https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/scriptures/ot/ex/4?lang=eng
Do our leaders feel like Moses? Do they think that we don’t receive them or listen to their messages.
Three signs:
A rod turning into a serpent.
A leprous hand that is miraculously healed.
River water poured onto earth, turned to blood.
Moses
didn’t trust his own speaking ability and was fearful of the Lord
asking him to be a spokesman. So the Lord gave Aaron the job of
relaying the messages the Lord first revealed to Moses.
Why was Moses afraid? What fears do you, or have you had, in your callings and assignments? How has the Lord blessed you through others to accomplish what you needed to do? How has the Lord increased you abilities and magnified your efforts?
Jethro supported Moses in returning to Egypt. Zipporah circumcised their son. Aaron met his brother Moses and they went to tell the people that the Lord saw their afflictions. They worshiped the Lord.
Individual Study Exodus 5-6:
The Lord has His Own Timing
Before Moses returned to
Egypt, the Lord had told Moses that even though he gave Pharaoh signs
and wonders, Pharaoh’s heart would be hardened and he wouldn’t
let Israel go. Now the Israelites were experiencing that.
The
Lord’s timing isn’t always an easy pill to swallow. Think of
Alma’s people. Do you submit willingly and cheerfully to all the
will of the Lord?
Moses people were already downtrodden?
How is it difficult to hang on to hope when your faith is shaken?
What can we do to increase faith and hope despite adversity?
What does the Lord say to Moses in chapter six that helps him persevere?
In 6:3 the Lord gives us His name: Jehovah. Jesus is our Lord Jehovah, the Great “I am” Exodus 3:13–15, the Eternal Father, Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End Doctrine and Covenants 38:1; 39:1.

vs 2 Because Pharaoh didn’t know the Lord, he let pride dictate
what he chose to do.
Do we ever do that? When we don’t
have the Spirit with us?
Because the Israelite’s wanted to go three days journey into the wilderness to sacrifice to their God, Pharaoh gave them harder work. They had to find their own straw and still produce the same number of bricks.
Exodus 6: https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/scriptures/ot/ex/6?lang=eng
vs 1 The Lord assures Moses that He will yet deliver Israel with a strong hand.
Vs 2-3 The Lord appeared to Moses and identified Who He is.
Vs 4 He reminds Moses of His Covenant with Israel.

Vs 6-8 The Lord delivers His message to Moses for Moses to deliver to His people.
Vs 9 Because of their afflictions, they were not prepared to receive the word.
Vs 12 Moses was really lacking in confidence. He said the children of Israel weren’t listening to him; why would Pharaoh?
Vs 13 The Lord gave both Moses and Aaron a charge. He would lead the children of Israel out of bondage, and they needed to be on board.
Vs 29 The Lord reminds Moses Who He is and gives him a commandment to speak to Pharaoh.
Vs 30 Moses still thinks Pharaoh won’t listen.
