Come Follow Me (between 9 and 10): Thoughts to Keep in Mind: the House of Israel
Thoughts to Keep in Mind: The House of Israel
Jacob had a right to worry about his reunion with Esau.
What
can we learn about approaching family members with whom we have
strained relationships?
Jacob prayed. He wrestled with
the Lord. His heart was softened and changed.
His name
was changed to Israel. Israel=He perseveres with God=Let God Prevail.
When we stop worrying about being the one in the right and trust in God, things will work out.
God made His covenant with Jacob. See Genesis 32:28. As a prince, he would have power with God and with man, because he let God prevail in his life. Genesis 32:24–32)
The name Israel indeed has become great in the world and throughout history, and in eternity.
Our lineage is an important part of our covenant identity. Being part of covenant Israel is what is important. Entering the Waters of Judea, or being baptized, puts us on that covenant path.
It is still up to the children of Israel to be the leaven and to bless all the children of the world.
Israel is again being gathered “from the nations of the world into the Church of Jesus Christ. We are referring to people who persevere with God, who earnestly seek His blessings, and who, through baptism, have become His covenant people.”
I am informed through my Patriarchal Blessing that I am a member of the House of Israel through the loins of Ephraim, which means that I am blood Israel. I have also been baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which means I am covenant Israel.
“Being a part of the house of Israel means that you have a covenant relationship with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. It means that you, like Abraham, are meant to “be a blessing” to God’s children (Genesis 12:2; Abraham 2:9–11). ”
It is through the power and the authority of the Priesthood and by the Gift of the Holy Ghost and the subsequent Gifts of the Spirit that I can be a blessing to those around me and to those I serve.
“But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light.” 1 Peter 2:9
Be one that perseveres by honoring your covenants with the Lord!
