Come Follow Me 37

Come Follow Me Lesson 37

Introduction:

Isaiah can be understood through the Spirit. Isaiah’s words can help open our eyes to the work of redemption. He spoke much about Jesus coming to be our Savior, and also about the scattering and gathering of Israel. He also spoke of the building up of Zion and the Lord’s Second Coming.

Isaiah: the Lord is Salvation.

Personal Study: How can I better understand the teachings of Isaiah?

3 Nephi 23:1–3 The Lord has commanded us to search the words of Isaiah.

As you read Isaiah, ask yourself, “What am I learning about Jesus Christ?” 1 Nephi 19:23

The prophecies of Isaiah are of great worth, and they can be understood through the Spirit of Prophecy (or the testimony of Jesus Christ). 2 Nephi 25:1–8

“Cease to do evil.”

What was the spiritual condition of the people in Isaiah’s day? How does that compare to our day?
Look for both messages of warnings and of hope.

God will do a great work in the latter days.

Doctrine and Covenants 113:1–6 provides helpful insights about Isaiah 11

How are we part of the gathering?

Isaiah 5:2610:20.

Prophets are called of God.

Isaiah records his call chapter 6.

Isaiah prophesied of Jesus Christ.

Isaiah prophesied that the alliance (with Syria) would fail and counseled Ahaz to trust in the Lord (see Isaiah 7–9, especially Isaiah 7:7–98:12–13).

Isaiah 7:14 virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. Matthew 1:21–23

8:13–14 he shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offence Matthew 21:44

9:2, 6–7 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Luke 1:31–33

Matt 4:16  The people which sat in darkness saw great light

Family Study:

Isaiah 1:16–18 We can be cleansed through His blood.

Isaiah 2:1–5 We more fully learn the Plan of Salvation in the Temple.

Isaiah 4:5–6 And the Lord will create upon every dwelling place of mount Zion, and upon her assemblies, a cloud and smoke by day, and the shining of a flaming fire by night: for upon all the glory shall be a defence.

And there shall be a tabernacle for a shadow in the daytime from the heat, and for a place of refuge, and for a covert from storm and from rain. Exodus 13:21–22

Isaiah 7:14 Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

9:1–7 The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light…For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

To understand the scriptures, we need personal revelation. The Lord has promised, “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you” (Matthew 7:7).

Vs 16-18 Just like with ancient Israel, the Lord cannot be happy with our nation. There is an invitation here for us to repent, return until Him, and be clean through and through.
