Cities of refuge are appointed for cases of manslaughter—Murderers will
be put to death—Two or three witnesses are required in court cases—False
witnesses will be punished.
Vs 5-6, 10, 11-12 Sanctuary cities were to
protect the innocent, not the guilty.
Vs 16-20 If someone gives a false witness,
serious inquisitions should be made by those in judgment to establish an
honest, fair, and true outcome. The guilty party should pay the reparations.

Laws are revealed for selecting soldiers and making war.
Vs 1-4 If we are
righteous, we have no reason to fear our enemies. The Lord will be with us and
fight our battles for us.

How amends are made for murders by unknown persons—Equity is required in
dealing with wives and children—Stubborn and rebellious sons will be put to
death.
Vs16-17 Joseph gained the blessing of the
firstborn and was given a double inheritance in Manasseh and Ephraim.

Moses sets forth laws pertaining to lost property, wearing of proper
clothes, caring for interests of others, marrying virgins, and sexual immorality.
Give back things to others who have lost
them.

Moses specifies those who may and may not enter the congregation—He sets
forth laws concerning sanitation, servants, usury, and vows.

Laws are given concerning divorce, newly married persons, making
merchandise of men, taking pledges, leprosy, oppression of servants, and
leaving gleanings of crops.
Vs 5: A new husband can stay at home with his
wife for a year. Not to go to war, or away on business.

Judges prescribe punishment for the wicked—The marriage law provides for
a brother’s widow—Just weights and measures are required—Israel is commanded to
blot out the Amalekites from under heaven.
Vs 3: Jesus was
beaten with 39 stripes, so that they could consider that his punishment was not
complete. Are we ever so evil that we want someone to suffer more than is just?
Vs 13-15: Deal fairly with everyone.

The children of Israel are to offer to the Lord a basket of the firstfruits
of Canaan—They are commanded to keep the law of tithing—They covenant to keep
the commandments, and the Lord promises to make them a holy people and a great
nation.
Vs 16-19: Remember the
captivity and delivery of your fathers (and yourself). Bind yourself to the
Lord and keep your covenants.

The children of Israel are to cross the Jordan, build an altar, and
worship the Lord—They are the Lord’s people but will be cursed if they do not
obey Him.
Vs 1: Keep all the commancments which I command you this day.
Vs 2-3: The
Israelites were to display the commandments in the land they were given. Are
the commandments clearly visible in our homes? Are they written on our hearts.
A reminder of
cursing is listed for those who break the commandments.

If the children of Israel are obedient, they will be blessed temporally
and spiritually—If they are disobedient, they will be cursed, smitten, and
destroyed; diseases, plagues, and oppression will come upon them; they will
serve false gods and become a byword among all nations; fierce nations will
enslave them; and they will eat their own children and be scattered among all
nations.
Vs 1-13 We will be blessed in every possible way if we keep
the commandments and love and worship the Lord.
Many cursings are also listed if we forget the Lord and abandon the commandments and break our covenants.
