Come Follow Me 4: Genesis 5; Moses 6

Come Follow Me Lesson 4: Genesis 5; Moses 6

Introduction:

Enoch walked with God. And God translated him and his entire city (see Gen 5:24).

There was evil in these beginning days, just as there is in these last days. The gospel was taught in the beginning, even as it is being taught to us now (see Moses 6:7, 50-52).

Readings Moses 6: 1-25:

Adam rejoiced in the birth and life of Seth. Seth hearkened to his father and to the commandments of God.

Many kept written records by the power of inspiration during these times (see Moses 6:5).

Won’t it be interesting to have the records that were written by these first prophets?

The children during these days were taught to read and write by the records that were kept (vs 6).

Moses prophesied that we would again have the priesthood of God in the last days (vs 7).

Adam’s record of the creation and the genealogy of his own history: (Moses 6:8-25).

Adam was a son of God (vs 22).

Personal Study: Readings Moses 6: 26-47:

Moses 6:23: And they were preachers of righteousness, and spake and prophesied, and called upon all men, everywhere, to repent; and faith was taught unto the children of men.

Vs 27: Enoch called as a prophet.

What is necessary for us to do so that we can recognize truth and see afar off?

Vs 33: Choose ye this day, to serve the Lord God who made you.

Vs 34: Blessings to Prophets, seers, and revelators: Behold my Spirit is upon you, wherefore all thy words will I justify; and the mountains shall flee before you, and the rivers shall turn from their course; and thou shalt abide in me, and I in you; therefore walk with me.

Enoch called as a seer: 35 And the Lord spake unto Enoch, and said unto him: Anoint thine eyes with clay, and wash them, and thou shalt see. And he did so.

36 And he beheld the spirits that God had created; and he beheld also things which were not visible to the natural eye; and from thenceforth came the saying abroad in the land: A seer hath the Lord raised up unto his people.

God gave great power to Enoch (see Moses 7: 13)

What has Heavenly Father done for you to help you fulfill your callings, assignments, and purposes?

Like Enoch there were many others who felt inadequate for the callings the Lord called them to do: Moses, Jeremiah, Nephi, and Moroni.

Nephi taught us how faith and prayer can help equip us to do the Lord’s will (see 2 Nephi 33:1-4).

So many good things found in Ether 12:23-29.

How does it make you feel to read Fools mock, but they shall mourn?

My grace is sufficient for the meek?

27 And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I give unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them.

28 Behold, I will show unto the Gentiles their weakness, and I will show unto them that faith, hope and charity bringeth unto me—the fountain of all righteousness.

Jacob 4:6–8.

What do you learn about Heavenly Father’s love for you and His desire to help you succeed?

Moses 6:48–68 Teach us the Doctrine of Christ (also found in 2 Nephi 31:13–21.

Moses 6:51–62 We need to study and learn these things through Faith in Jesus Christ, and we need to teach these things freely to our children.

What does it mean to teach the gospel freely?

Family Study

How can we keep a family record?

Should we ask Eliza to continue her weekly questions? I think that was good for us.

What is it that we should teach freely to our children (See Moses 6: 53, 57-62)

The Doctrine of Christ, the Plan of Salvation; the need for baptism. If we do not teach them these things, we will be held responsible. We need to point them to Christ and teach them His ways, and help them Come unto Christ.

What does it mean to be born again in the kingdom of heaven?

How can we choose to be born again and retain a remission of our sins? (See Alma 5:7-14, 26)

Born Again, Born of God

How can we have the Spirit abide in us forever? (See Moses 6: 61)

Name some things that bear record of Jesus Christ.

How do the titles “Living Bread” and “Living Water” remind us about the Savior and our dependence on Him?
