Come Follow Me 1: Moses 1; Abraham 3

Come Follow Me Lesson 1: Moses 1; Abraham 3 Come Follow Me 1 Teacher's Manuel Who am I? Why am I here? Who does God want me to become? How can the answers to these questions influence our daily actions? Film narrated by Elder Holland: Satan will always be defeated by the God of Glory. God has set bounds and limits to the opposing powers of darkness. Fear ye not, the Lord shall fight for you. Like Moses, I do not have to be deceived by Satan’s counterfeits. I have experienced the power and the gift of the Holy Ghost in my life, and the Spirit of the Lord testifies to me the things that are true. Moses knew that he himself was God’s son and that He had been given a body to house his spirit. He knew that Satan did not have that. (See Moses 1:13) Moses had met God and been given of His Spirit and He asked Satan to leave and deceive him not. He trusted in God. I will not cease to call upon God, I have other things to inquire of him: for his  glory   ha...

Come Follow Me: Abraham 1-2

Come Follow Me: Abraham 1-2 Abraham 1 Why was it important to Heavenly Father that the Church obtain the records from Abraham? What greater happiness, rest, and peace does our Father desire for all of us? (See vs 2) Do we hold the rights belonging to the fathers? When we covenant to do the Lord’s will and forsake the gods fashioned by the world, we have Jehovah’s promise, just as Abraham did in vs 18: “Behold, I will lead thee by my hand, and I will take thee, to put upon thee my name, even the Priesthood of thy father, and my power shall be over thee.” Then this, “through thy ministry my name shall be known in the earth forever, for I am thy God,” in vs 19. It is through Abraham’s seed that the gospel is being taken to all the world and that all the world will be blessed. Abraham Chapter 1 talks about Ham marrying outside the covenant, a daughter of Egypt. Afterwards, Pharaoh, who was of their seed, set up his order after the pattern of the Priesthood, but he carried the...

Come Follow Me: Thoughts to Keep in Mind: Reading the Old Testament

Come Follow Me: Thoughts to Keep in Mind: Reading the Old Testament “ The Old Testament is one of the oldest collections of writings in the world.” We can learn from the experiences of the people in the Old Testament, even though they lived in a different time and culture. We can also add layers to our testimony as the Spirit teaches us true doctrine. The Old Testament is full of prophesies and witnesses about Jesus being the Only Begotten of the Father and the Savior of the world. All scripture is meant to teach about Heavenly Father’s Plan of happiness and the Doctrine of Christ, so that we know how to live here on earth and so that we, through the atonement of Jesus Christ, will be able to return to our Heavenly Parents. Genealogies are often shown. But the purpose of the scriptures is not to give a full historical account. God preserved the Old Testament so that we would have a greater understanding of His love for all people and a more comprehensive understanding of th...

Come Follow Me: Old Testament Introductory Materials

You are a Teacher in the Church of Jesus Christ Introduction to Old Testament Study “ The essential purpose of gospel teaching and learning is to deepen conversion to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.” “ Teach only the doctrine of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ as found in the scriptures and the words of latter-day prophets. Pure doctrine—eternal, unchanging truth taught by God and His servants—invites the Spirit and has the power to change lives.” Using Come, Follow Me—For Sunday School “ Think of these ideas not as step-by-step instructions but rather as suggestions to spark your own inspiration.” “ You can support their scripture study by providing them with frequent opportunities to share what they are learning at home. “ I deas for Encouraging Personal and Family Study https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual/come-follow-me-for-sunday-school-old-testament-2022/study?lang=eng Additional Resources https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual...
