Come Follow Me Lesson 50

“Holiness unto the Lord”
Introduction:

Haggai 2:3 The Jews returned to Jerusalem. Some had seen the temple before it was destroyed. Even though they were back, the sight that they met must have been discouraging.

Haggai 2:4–5, 7, 9 “Be strong, all ye people of the land, saith the Lord, and work: for I am with you, … fear ye not.” “I will fill this house with glory, … and in this place will I give peace.”

How does it make you feel to know that the Lord of Hosts has been watching over your people throughout the millennia, and He will make the last glory even better than the first?

How can we build ourselves, with the Lord, to become His holy people? Are the words “Holiness to the Lord” engraven on our hearts and visible in our countenances?

Zechariah 14:20–21 Do we think about making all of our efforts, purchases, free time, all that we do more holy before God?

Zechariah 1:6 Are His words taking hold in us?

Leviticus 19:2 Are we allowing His power to change our natures, so that we become more consistently holy? Are we becoming like our Father?

Haggai

Personal Study: Consider your ways:

Fifteen years had passed, and the Lord wasn’t happy that the people hadn’t given building the temple a higher priority.

Are we putting things off that the Lord wants us to do much too long? Think of our own life, what the Spirit tells you, and what you are choosing to do? Can you do better and/or more to align yourself with the will of the Lord?

Do the following words apply to you?
Haggai 1:2–5 “This people say, The time is not come, the time that the Lord’s house should be built….  Consider your ways.” Are you seeking understanding concerning what you believe the Lord would have you do? Counsel with Him?

Ezra 4:24 Are there blessings that you are missing because of inaction?

Family Study: Haggai 1:2–7

verse 6 Are our lives filled with things, with activities, with food and riches, but we don’t have enough. We might feel empty at times? What is it we need to change? What ways do we need to consider?

Do you value the treasures of this world or the riches of your Father in Heaven?

I’m Trying to Be like Jesus Am I “following in His ways?”

Family Study: Haggai 2:1–9.

How did you feel when you knew that the Provo Tabernacle would be rebuilt into a temple? How did you feel seeing that temple and being allowed to go inside?

Is there something in your life that needs rebuilding? How does the Lord rebuild us after tragedy and adversity and personal weaknesses?

Haggai exhorts the people to build the temple.

Vs 2-5 What are you willing to sacrifice to build the Lord's kingdom, and to better yourself?

Vs 6 Are you preparing for eternity, or are you living from one pleasure to the next, and not finding real joy?

Vs 7-8 Take time with the Lord to consider your ways and be instructed by Him. He will multiple your efforts for your good and His name's glory. Trust Him.

Vs 9-11 The Lord has taken away the blessings of our land, because the people have forgotten Him and trusted in their own foolishness. If we are humble and do the works He asks us to do, we will be blessed in all that we do.

Vs 12-14 The people repented and built the temple. The Lord accepted them as they repented and began to work and said, "I am with you."

Haggai speaks about the Messiah—The Desire of All Nations will come—The Lord will give peace in His temple.

Vs 3-9 Sometimes what the Lord sets before us seems insurmountable. But we need to trust in Him and remember that His promises are sure. He will shake the heavens and the earth and all things for our good. He glory will fill His temples, and then it will fill the earth. Be faithful; don't forget to wait on the Lord.

Vs 19-23 The temples are necessary. In them we are endowed with power from on high, which we verily need to perform our labors and be strengthened in righteousness in this our day.

And he answered and spake unto those that stood before him, saying, Take away the filthy garments from him. And unto him he said, Behold, I have caused thine iniquity to pass from thee, and I will clothe thee with change of raiment.

And I said, Let them set a fair mitre upon his head. So they set a fair mitre upon his head, and clothed him with garments. And the angel of the Lord stood by.

14 But I scattered them with a whirlwind among all the nations whom they knew not. Thus the land was desolate after them, that no man passed through nor returned: for they laid the pleasant land desolate.

Matthew 21:1–11 The above scripture was fulfilled. Jesus rode triumphantly on a donkey. He was the great last sacrifice for you and for me. Hosannah to Jesus, the son of David.

1 Peter 3:18–19 Jesus suffered for us, died, and was resurrected. He has taught His gospel to the living and the dead.

In the final great war, all nations will be engaged at Jerusalem, but the Lord will defend His people—Then the Jews will look upon the Lord, whom they crucified, and there will be great mourning.

At His Second Coming, the Lord will fight for Israel—His feet will stand upon the Mount of Olives—He will be King over all the earth—Plagues will destroy the wicked.

Zechariah 14:1–9

Vs 4-9 Jesus will stand on the earth. There will be great changes in that day. There will again be a day, a night, and a day as if it were one day; even like it was in the Americas at the time of His birth. Living waters will run forth and heal the land. Jesus is also the Living Water that will heal us all. The Lor dwill be King over all the earth in that great day!

Matthew 26:31 When Jesus was smitten, His flock was scattered.

Doctrine and Covenants 45:47–53 So much here that clarifies so many things written elsewhere:
47 Then shall the arm of the Lord fall upon the nations.

48 And then shall the Lord set his foot upon this mount, and it shall cleave in twain, and the earth shall tremble, and reel to and fro, and the heavens also shall shake.

49 And the Lord shall utter his voice, and all the ends of the earth shall hear it; and the nations of the earth shall mourn, and they that have laughed shall see their folly.

50 And calamity shall cover the mocker, and the scorner shall be consumed; and they that have watched for iniquity shall be hewn down and cast into the fire.

51 And then shall the Jews look upon me and say: What are these wounds in thine hands and in thy feet?

52 Then shall they know that I am the Lord; for I will say unto them: These wounds are the wounds with which I was wounded in the house of my friends. I am he who was lifted up. I am Jesus that was crucified. I am the Son of God.

53 And then shall they weep because of their iniquities; then shall they lament because they persecuted their king.

Pray for those you know who are mockers and scorners and looking for evil, that they may repent before this great day.

In that day, all that are left will worship the Lord.

14:9–11, 20–21 In a future day we will dwell with the Lord in a state of holiness.
