Jeremiah prophesies the captivity of Zedekiah—The people of Judah will be removed into all the kingdoms of the earth.

In this chapter we see that Jerusalem was taken into bondage, because they made bondmen and women out of their own people. They didn't honor the Lord or the words of the prophets to let them go free, but took them again as slaves.

What does this mean for us? Can you please free others in your mind and in your heart of debts you believe they owe you, so that the Lord will free you?

Choose to be gathered, not to be scattered.

The Rechabites are commended and blessed for their obedience.

The righteous our blessed for their righteousness.

Jeremiah prophesies that Egypt will not save Judah from Babylon—He is cast into a dungeon—Zedekiah transfers him to the court of the prison.

Jeremiah is imprisoned for proclaiming the word of the Lord. Did Zedekiah prefer to hear pleasant things from false prophets, or was he protecting him?

The rulers cast Jeremiah into a muddy dungeon—He is freed by Ebed-melech, an Ethiopian, and put in the court of the prison—Jeremiah counsels Zedekiah concerning the war.

Zedekiah sought counsel from Jeremiah. He told Jeremiah to not speak it to the others.

Jerusalem is taken, and the people are taken captive—Jeremiah and Ebed-melech, the Ethiopian, are preserved.

Vs 6-7 All of Zedekiah's sons were slain, except for Mulek, who somehow escaped this fate and went to the Americas. He joined the Nephite people.

The Lord blessed Ebed-melech the Ethiopian.

The king of Babylon makes Gedaliah governor over the remnant left in Judah—Jeremiah is freed and dwells among them.

Other Jews return and enjoy the summer fruits.

Ishmael kills Gedaliah and carries the people of Mizpah captive—They are rescued by Johanan.

Jeremiah promises Johanan and the remnant of Judah peace and safety if they remain in Judah, but the sword, famine, and pestilence if they go to Egypt.

Vs 2-6 Do I have faith to hear the word of the Lord through the prophet and/or through the Spirit and then follow what is asked, whether I see it as good or bad?

Johanan carries Jeremiah and the remnant of Judah into Egypt—Jeremiah prophesies that Babylon will conquer Egypt.

Jeremiah prophesies that the Jews in Egypt, save a small remnant, will be destroyed because they worship false gods.

Jeremiah promises Baruch that his life will be preserved.

Jeremiah prophesies the conquest of Egypt by Babylon—Jacob will be saved and will return to his own land.

Vs 28 We will be blessed for righteousness and punished for wickedness; but the Lord will preserve and sustain Israel.

Jeremiah foretells desolation and destruction upon the Philistines.

Judgment and destruction will come upon the Moabites for their contempt of God.

Vs 10 Trust in true prophets, seek the Spirit, and follow the counsel of the Lord.

Judgment and destruction will come upon the people of Ammon, Edom, Kedar, Hazor, and Elam.

Vs 4 Don’t be a backsliding daughter. The women have more influence over the people than you can imagine.

Vs 11 The Lord takes care of those who have suffered great loss.

Babylon will be destroyed and never rise again—The scattered people of Israel will be brought again into the lands of their inheritance.

A chapter to be reviewed. The Lord will save and spare both Israel and Judah, who are the humble followers of the Lord.

 

The Israelites from the North will join us.

 

Babylon will be destroyed. So much to review and learn.

Judgment, destruction, and desolation will come upon Babylon for her sins—Israel is commanded, Flee from Babylon—Israel is the Lord’s rod to destroy all kingdoms.

Vs 15-16 God is the Creator, and He is in control of all things.

Babylon shall fall.

Jerusalem is besieged and taken by the Chaldeans—Many people and the vessels of the house of the Lord are carried into Babylon.

Zedekiah’s sons killed before his eyes. Then they blind him as well. Sadness.

Misery, sorrow, and desolation prevail in Jerusalem.

Vs 5 When we stray far from the Lord, we no longer are blessed as we are when we are faithful. We have made ourselves enemies to the Lord.

The condition of Zion is pitiful because of sin and iniquity.

Jeremiah recites in prayer the sorrowful condition of Zion.
