Introduction:
How do the words of Isaiah bring you joy and hope for the future?
During Christ’s day, he read to the people in the synagogue the words found in Isaiah 61:1–2, then He told them that what they heard he read was fulfilled that day in their ears. Luke 4:16–21
He is the Anointed One. He heals the broken hearted and preaches deliverance to the captives. He will create the new heavens and a new earth. Isaiah 65:17 He will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all nations. Isaiah 61:11
Isaiah preaches truth. In studying his words our eyes will be opened to what the Lord already has done, what He is currently doing, and what He will yet do for His people.

Is fasting a blessing or a burden to you?
How can you find more purpose in your fasting? Isaiah 58:3–12 How do these verses affect the way you think and feel about fasting?
Ask yourself why you fast. Why should you fast?
How can fasting break bands of wickedness and break every yoke? (Do you see what things you might be choosing to fast for?)

The true
law of the fast, with its purposes and attendant blessings, is set forth—The
commandment to keep the Sabbath is given.
Vs 6-7 In fasting we should seek to
overcome our selfishness. We should see to let go of pride and wickedness, and
the heavy burdens of distraction and distortion (as mentioned by President
Nelson). We should seek to be free through Jesus Christ, to overcome the evils
of this world.
In fasting, we should seek to feed the hungry, invite the poor to
come to our homes, to clothe the naked, and to be humble.
vs 8-12 Numberous blessings received for fasting in the
Lord's way.
Vs 13-14
Blessings for keeping the Sabbath day holy.
Personal Study: Jesus Christ is my Savior and Redeemer
Isaiah teaches us more about the Saviors atoning mission and
sacrifice.

The
people of Israel are separated from their God by iniquity—Their sins testify against
them—The Messiah will intercede, come to Zion, and redeem the repentant.
Vs 1-2 The Lord can always reach us and hear and answer us. If we feel separated and far from Him, it is because we have sinned.
verses 9–15 Spiritual condition of the people: Living in darkness and sin and continual lies.
verses 16–21 Impressions of the Intecessor and the covenant: Jesus will repay those who are righteous with righteousness and good things.
The Redeemer shall come to Zion.

In the last days, Israel will rise again as a mighty nation—The gentile peoples will join with and serve Israel—Zion will be established—Finally, Israel will dwell in celestial splendor.
Isaiah 60:1–5 How is the gospel of Jesus Christ like a light for us? What will happen to and for us as we share the light of the gospel?
We, as Israelites in a Gentile nation are taking the gospel
to all the world. The righteous will shine forth and invite others to come to
Christ. The Gentiles will help Israel to build up Zion.
vs 10 Rich and poor will help build Zion.
Vs 11-12 All are invited to Zion. Ultimately, those who
do not accept Jesus Christ and his gospel, and who fight against the building
up of Zion, will perish.
Vs 14 Our enemies will
recognize that Zion is the city of our Lord, and Jesus is the Holy One of
Israel.
Vs 16 Because of the
miracles which we see and the Spirit that attends us, we will also know that
Jesus is our Lord, Savior and Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.
Vs 18-22 I look forward to
this day when there is no violence, by pure light and glory and righteousness
to cover the earth. The Lord will hasten it in His time.

Isaiah speaks about the Messiah—The Messiah will have the Spirit, preach the gospel, and proclaim liberty—In the last days, the Lord will call His ministers and make an everlasting covenant with the people.
Isaiah 61:1–3 Can you see the ways Jesus has blessed you? What good tidings has He brought you? Has he turned ashes into beauty?
1 The Spirit of the Lord God is upon
me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto
the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to
the captives, and the opening of
the prison to them that are bound;
2 To
proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of
our God; to comfort all that mourn;
3 To
appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for
the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness,
the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified.
Vs 10-11 The endowment with which we are endowed in the
temples of our God truly give us promise of all good things ahead and eternal
glory.

In the
last days, Israel will be gathered—Zion will be established—Her watchmen will
teach about the Lord—The gospel standard will be lifted up—The people will be
called holy, the redeemed of the Lord.
Vs 1-3 The Lord will not rest unto
Zion is established; neither should His servants stop serving.
The blessings that we receive in the temple are marvelous. Soon
all the Gentiles will see of our righteousness and kings of our glory. The Lord
will call us by a new name. We are not forsaken. He remembers us.
Vs 10-12 Open your mouth and testify of
Jesus Christ and invite others to come unto Him. Make a highway for converts to
come into the fold of God. Lift up a standard for others to see. Live by that
standard.
As a daughter of Zion, have faith. Salvation is nigh. You are
redeemed. Zion shall be called sought out, a city not forsaken.

The
Second Coming will be a day of vengeance and also the year of the redeemed of
the Lord—Then the Saints will praise the Lord and acknowledge Him as their
father.
Vs 2-4 Jesus will come in red apparel when He comes to earth again to
rule and reign. Those who have chosen Him and righteousness, will be redeemed.
The wicked will receive a quick death.
Vs 7-9 Jesus has redeemed all of Israel, and He will show loving kindness to
all who are obedient to Him. We need to choose to accept His gift of
redemption.
Isaiah 63:7–9 What tender mercies and loving kindesses have you been given? He has delivered me many times from harm and evil, and He yet delivers me.
Personal Study: Christ will
reign on earth during the Millennium.
The Millennial Day described in Isaiah 64-66. A time to rejoice and for rejoicing. Why will the Savior’s return be a day of rejoicing for you? What should you do to prepare? Alma 5.

The
people of the Lord pray for the Second Coming and for the salvation that will
then be theirs.
The Millennial Day described: Isaiah 64:1–5
Vs 1-2 Are your praying for the Lord's return?
Vs 4 Are you
waiting on the Lord, such as a very good waitress? both doing His will, and
serving Him? Are you also looking forward to His 2nd Coming with hope. He has
prepared wonderful things for those who wait on Him.
Vs 5 The Lord will meet us
if we remember Him, rejoice in Him, and do righteous works. I think that means
that He will meet and match our efforts even know; and then He will meet us
when He comes in clouds of glory and we are caught up in the air to meet Him.
Vs 8-9 Though we have all gone astray and fallen short of the glory of God. Though Worthy is the Lamb and we are all sinners; yet, He is our Father. We have taken upon us our name. If we allow it, He will cleanse us and make us whole.

Ancient
Israel was rejected for rejecting the Lord—The Lord’s people will rejoice and
triumph during the Millennium.
Vs 12-14 Those who do not repent, but prefer the desires of the worldly will see the Lord bless His righteous saints and refuse them, as they have refused Him. Will you sing for joy of heart, or howl for vexation of spirit. Choose Jesus every day, prefer Him, denk an ihn.
Isaiah 65:16
When Jesus comes to earth to rule and
reign, all of our former troubles will be forgotten.
Vs 15-16 The righteous shall be called by a new name.
They will be blessed in the God of truth. All former troubles will be forgotten,
because they will be his from the Lord's eyes.
The Millennial Day described:
65:17–25:
There will be a new heaven and a new earth.
Jerusalem will be created for rejoicing and her people will be a
joy.
Christ will rejoice in Jerusalem and in His people.
No more weeping or crying.
The infant will not die, but live to be 100.
The sinner will be accursed.
All that we have and do sill prosper.
Nothing that we do will be in vain.
We will be the seed of the Lord and be blessed and our offspring
will be too.
God will answer our desires before we can ask them.
The wolf and the lamb shall feed together.
The lion will eat straw like the bullock.
The serpent shall eat dust.
There will be none to hurt nor destroy in all of the Lord's holy
mountain.

At the Second Coming, Israel, as a nation, will be born in a day; the wicked will be destroyed; and the Gentiles will hear the gospel.
The Millennial Day described: 66
Vs 1 I am so
thankful that we, as His Church, are building so many temples. It's not just a
place for Him to rest in this untoward generation; but, also for us.
This entire chapter speaks of the Lord condemning the evils of our day; people equated evil with good and accepting it as such. The wicked will be destroyed by sword and fire. The righteous will be blessed and be on the earth to enjoy the new heavens and the new earth.
