Come Follow Me Lesson 38

Introduction:

A Marvelous Work and a Wonder

Prophets are bold in declaring the word of the Lord, teaching the consequences of sin, and calling upon people to repent. Isaiah was fearless in doing this.

He also had a message of hope, restoration, and renewal. The Lord invites us to return to Him. He will send water to our parched lands. Isaiah 35:7 He is restoring Israel’s blessings in the marvelous work and wonder of our day. Isaiah 29:14

Personal Study: The wicked kingdoms of the world and their rulers will fall.

“The Burden of Babylon” is found in Isaiah 13–14. Today Babylon equates with pride, worldliness, and sin. Look for symbols of these in your reading.

Can you see similarities between Isaiah’s day and our day as we await the Lord’s return? (see Isaiah 13:1–11Doctrine and Covenants 45:26–42).

How is the Babylonian king’s pride like Satan’s? (see Isaiah 14:4–20Moses 4:1–4).

How do you feel about the promise that the Savior will give you rest? Isaiah 14:3

Satan will be bound when the Lord comes again. Jesus will free the righteous.

The writings of Isaiah point me to Jesus Christ.

The teachings of Isaiah often refer to the Savior’s mission, including His atoning sacrifice, Resurrection, and Second Coming.

High brought low Isaiah 24:21–23
No more death or sorrow 25:6–8
Dead resurrected 26:19
Jesus is the Rock of our Salvation 28:16

Something about removing the burden of the nail in the sure place Isaiah 22:22–25

Apostasy means turning away from the Lord and His prophets.

Metaphors:

An empty earth Isaiah 24:1–12
Drunkenness Isaiah 28:7–8
Hunger and thirst Isaiah 29:7–10),
A broken wall or vessel
Isaiah 30:8–14

How does keeping your covenants over you protection from apostasy? What are you choosing to do to stay close to the Lord and His prophets?
