The Lord honors Solomon before all Israel—The Lord appears to him—Solomon chooses and is given wisdom—His kingdom is blessed with splendor and riches.

Vs 7-12 Because of Solomon’s righteousness, the Lord asked what he could do for him. Because Solomon asked for wisdom to fulfill his calling, the Lord, granted him wisdom, plus riches and honor.

Solomon engages Huram of Tyre to supply timber for the temple—Laborers are organized to do the work.

Vs 4-6 Solomon realizes that He cannot build anything grand enough for God, because God has created and owns all; but there needs to be a house for worship and ordinances to God.

Vs 12 Huram is thankful that God chose Solomon to lead His people, and he acknowledges Israel’s God.

Solomon begins to build the temple—He makes the veil and the pillars, and uses much gold and many precious stones.

Solomon makes a basin and places it on twelve oxen—The altar, basins, pots, and various items are made.

Vs 6 Was the sea like our temple baptismal fonts?

The temple is finished, and the ark of the covenant is placed in the holy of holies—The glory of the Lord fills the temple.

Vs 11 What is necessary for us to do to be sanctified?

Vs 13-14 Praise was offered to God, and the Glory of God did fill the temple.

Solomon blesses the congregation of Israel—He offers the dedicatory prayer for the temple—He prays for mercy and blessings for penitent Israel.

Vs 4-12 Solomon recounts the history of how David His Father and he became kings in Israel. Solomon chosen to build Lord's house.

Vs 13-42 Solomon dedicates the House of the Lord and makes supplication for his people to always be forgiven when they return to the Lord and turn to His temple.

Fire comes down from heaven and consumes the sacrifices and burnt offerings—The Lord appears to Solomon and promises to bless the people—The Israelites will prosper if they keep the commandments.

Vs 1  The Lord heard Solomon's prayer, and His glory filled the temple.

Vs 4-5 Everyone offered sacrifice to God. The people along with Solomon dedicated the House of God. We all need to dedicate our temples and places of worship.

Vs 12-16 The Lord appeared to Solomon and answered his prayer in every particular. He loves Israel and seeks to bless His children when they are obedient and repentant.

Vs 17-22 The Lord desired to bless King David and King Solomon, and yet there were conditions for their blessing and the blessing of the people. Solomon was given a great accountability for all Israel. If he and they departed from the Lord's precepts, they would forfeit their blessings.

Solomon builds cities—He offers sacrifices according to the law of Moses—Priests and Levites are appointed to serve the Lord.

Vs 16 They gave their very best in substance and in workmanship to the building of the House of the Lord.

The queen of Sheba visits Solomon—He excels in wisdom, wealth, and magnificence—After reigning forty years, Solomon dies, and Rehoboam becomes king.

Vs 1-9,12 The Queen of Sheba had heard of Solomon’s wisdom and greatness. She went to see for herself, and found that the situation was greater than the reports she’d heard. She praised the God of Israel and gave Solomon gifts.

Vs 22-24, 26 Solomon became the governor of many tributary kingdoms around him. They looked to him for wisdom and paid him tribute.

The people request relief, but Rehoboam promises to increase the burdens upon the people—Israel rebels and the kingdom is divided.

Rehoboam was unwise to abandon the wisdom of his elders and to hearken to the foolishness of his peers. He divided the kingdom of Israel from the kingodom of Judah by his rash decision.

Rehoboam strengthens the kingdom of Judah but is forbidden to subdue Israel—Jeroboam leads the kingdom of Israel into idolatry—Rehoboam takes many wives and concubines.

Vs 2-4 Even though Rehoboam was going to go to war against Israel, he hearkened to the words of the prophet and did not go at that time.

Vs 13-14 The priests all went odut of Israel to Judah, becaue Jeroboam didn't want them officiating in Israel.

Rehoboam forsakes the law of the Lord—The Egyptians plunder Jerusalem and take the treasures of the house of the Lord—The people repent and receive partial deliverance—Rehoboam dies.

Vs 1 Both Judah and Israel rejected the Lord. The followed king Rehoboam.

Abijah reigns in Judah—He defeats Jeroboam and the armies of Israel—The Lord strikes Jeroboam, and he dies.

Vs 4-12 King Abijah beckons Israel to remember the Lord their God.

Vs 14-18 Judah was favored at this time under Abijah's rule over Israel, because they remembered the Lord their God.

Asa reigns in Judah, rebuilds the cities, and defeats and plunders the Ethiopians, who attack Judah.

Vs 1-6 There was peace during Asa's reign because he worshiped God and got rid of false gods and false worship.

Vs 7 During times of peace and prosperity, we need to keep strengthening our lands and communities and preparing. The were blessed of the Lord because they sought after Him.

Vs 11-12 We need to remember that when we are righteous, the Lord will fight our battles. The battle is the Lord's.

Azariah prophesies that Judah will prosper if the people keep the commandments—Asa does away with false worship in Judah—Many from Ephraim, Manasseh, and Simeon migrate to Judah—The people covenant to serve the Lord and are blessed.

Vs 1-4 Azariah acknowledges that the Lord is with those who see to follow Him. When we turn to the Lord through repentance and faith, He will be with us again.

Vs 8-15 Because Asa hearkened to the Lord and was blessed, his people and many of Israel's people followed him; and they renewed their covenants to the Lord.

Asa employs Syria to defeat Israel—Hanani the seer reproves Asa for lack of faith—Asa suffers from disease and dies.

Jehoshaphat reigns well and prospers in Judah—Priests travel and teach out of the book of the law of the Lord.

Vs 3-6 Jehoshaphat was a righteous leader.

Vs 4-10 Jehoshaphat made sure that all of his people were taught in the law of the Lord.

Jehoshaphat of Judah joins Ahab of Israel to fight Syria—Ahab’s false prophets foretell victory—Micaiah prophesies the fall and death of Ahab—The Syrians slay Ahab.

So SO much in this chapter. I will pay more attention to notes and break downs in a subsequent reading. Jehoshaphat made alliance with Aha. He would go to war with Aha, if the words of the prophets of the Lord said to do so. They all said yes, except for Micaiah, who said that the others received from a lying spirit.

Jehoshaphat is rebuked for helping ungodly Ahab—He helps the people return to the Lord, sets up judges, and administers justice.

Vs 2-7 Jehoshaphat was chastised for having made an alliance with the wicked Aha. He redoubled his efforts to follow the Lord and to have his people follow the Lord.

The Ammonites and others attack Judah—Jehoshaphat and all the people fast and pray—Jahaziel prophesies the deliverance of Judah—Judah’s attackers war among and destroy themselves.

Vs 5-13 Jehoshaphat prays mightily to the Lord for the preservation of His people.

Vs 14-17 Jahaziel speaks with the Spirit of the Lord, that the battle is not theirs, but Gods. They will not have to fight this battle. They must stand still and see the salvation of the Lord. They are not to be afraid or dismayed. The Lord will be with them.

Vs 18-19 The humbly prayed and rejoiced and sang at this good news.

Vs  20 It is so important for us to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and in his prophets. He will establish and prosper us when we do.

Vs 21-24 The Israelites task was to sing and praise the Lord. They did not have to fight. They're enemies were destroyed. Those who destroyed their enemies, then turned on each other as well. The Lord fought this battle, as He said He would.

Vs 27-30 The returned in peace to their own lands.

Vs 35-37 Jehoshaphat again made the mistake of joining alliance with Israel's king and suffered the consequences for that.

Jehoram slays his brothers, marries Ahab’s daughter, and reigns in wickedness—Elijah prophesies a plague upon the people and the death of Jehoram—The Philistines and others war against Judah—Jehoram dies of sore diseases.

Vs 12-15 Because Jehoram did such evil, Elijah prophesied that the Lord would curse him.

Ahaziah reigns in wickedness and is slain by Jehu; his mother, Athaliah, reigns in his stead.

Vs 10-12 Athaliah tried to destroy all the royal house of Israel when her son Ahaziah was killed. But Jehoshabeath, Ahaziah's sister, hid Joash from her. Athaliah reigned in Israel.

Jehoiada the priest makes Joash king—Athaliah is slain—Worship of the Lord is restored, and the priest of Baal is slain. Jehoiada the priest makes Joash king—Athaliah is slain—Worship of the Lord is restored, and the priest of Baal is slain.

Vs 11-21 Joash is anointed King. Athaliah is slain. Jehoiada and the people covenant with the Lord. They destroy the house of Baal and kill his priest.

Joash and Jehoiada receive contributions and repair the house of the Lord—Jehoiada dies—Joash falls into idolatry, slays a prophet named Zechariah, and is himself slain in a conspiracy.

Vs 2 Joash did good things while Jehoiada the Priest was alive. He repaired the House of the Lord with all the abundance of accessories. He strengthened the temple according to the law of Moses.

Vs 17 After Jehoiada, Joash gave heed to wrong counselors. They left the house of the Lord and served groves and idols and brought wrath upon Judah and Israel.

Vs 19-21 They ignored the prophets and killed Zechariah.

Vs 22 Joash had all of Jehoiada's sons killed.

Vs 23-24 The Lord delivered the great hosts of Israel to the mary of Syria because of their wickedness.

Vs 27 Amaziah reigns next.

Amaziah reigns, smites the Edomites, and worships false gods—A prophet foretells Amaziah’s destruction—Judah is defeated by Israel, and Amaziah is slain in a conspiracy.

Vs 2 How can we make our hearts perfect when we choose to do what's right?

Vs 3-4 Amazaiah sought to govern fairly.

Vs 14-16 Amazaiah now trusted in false gods who were no gods and he ignored and threatened the prophet of God.

Vs 27 Amaziah killed by conspiracy.

Uzziah reigns and prospers as long as he keeps the commandments—He transgresses, attempts to burn incense upon the altar, and is cursed with leprosy.

Vs 1 Uzziah king at 16.

Vs 4-5 Amaziah did that which was right and had respect to prophet Zechariah.

Vs 16 He became prideful and took the honor of the priest's office to himself, which he did not have authority to do.

Vs 17-21 He became prideful and took the honor of the priest's office to himself, which he did not have authority to do.

Jotham became king.

Jotham reigns, builds up the kingdom, and subdues the Ammonites.

Vs 1 Jotham was 25 when he became king.

Vs 2 Jotham did what was right in the sight of the Lord. But he didn't go into the temple. He may have feared to do so after what his father did. His people were amiss.

Vs 9 Ahaz reigns next.

Ahaz reigns in wickedness and practices idolatry; his people are defeated by Israel—The captives are freed by the command of a prophet—The Edomites and Philistines attack Judah—Ahaz continues his idolatrous ways.

Ahaz began his idolatrous reign when he was 20. He even burnt his children in the fire.

Both Syria and Samaria took captives of Israel.

vs 9-11
A prophet of the Lord warns Israel not to take captives of their brethren of the House of Judah.

Vs 12-15 The men of Judah listened and dealt very kindly with the captives from Judah and clothed and dressed them and brought them to safety.

Ahaz stole from the temple and locked up the temple. He worshiped and served false gods.

Hezekiah reigned in his stead.

Hezekiah reigns in righteousness and restores the worship of Jehovah—The Levites cleanse and sanctify the house of the Lord—The priests offer sacrifices and make reconciliation and atonement for the people—Hezekiah and all the people worship the Lord and praise His name.

Vs 1-5 Hezekiah was righteous. He opened and repaired the temple. He brought back the priests and told them to sanctify themselves. He worshiped the true and living God.

Vs 10-12 It was in Hezekiah's heart to make covenants with God and for his people to as well. The Levites hearkened.

Vs 15-17 The Levites cleaned and sanctified the house of the Lord.

Vs 21-31 The priests offered sin offerings and burnt offerings for all Israel. They played instruments and sang songs of praise. All the people joined in worshiping the true God. They made reconciliation. Then they offered sacrifices and burnt offerings.

Hezekiah invites all Israel to a solemn Passover in Jerusalem—Some accept the call; others laugh him to scorn—The faithful Israelites worship the Lord in Jerusalem.

Vs 1-5 Hezekiah invited all Israel to keep the Passover of the Lord.

Vs 6-10 Hezekiah's letter to all Israel to come and worhip the Lord and to forsake the evil ways of their fathers.

Vs 11-27 Many came for the passover and were blessed for turning back to God. Hezekiah prayed that their offerings be accepted, even if not perfect. The Lord did bless the people. Magnificent time.

The faithful Israelites overthrow false worship among them—The people pay tithes and offerings—The Levites administer in temporal matters—Hezekiah serves faithfully.

Vs 10 Because Hezekiah and all Israel repented, got rid of false God, and made continual offerings to the Lord, they were blessed with an overabundance.

Vs 20-21 Hezekiah was a righteous king and taught his people to live righteously, and they prospered.

Sennacherib invades Judah and besieges the cities—He rails against the Lord—Isaiah and Hezekiah pray, and an angel destroys the leaders of the Assyrian armies—Hezekiah reigns in righteousness despite some pride in his heart.

Vs 7-8 When it was clear that the King of Assyria would come to battle against Israel, Hezekiah made preparations. He cut off water sources that would intrique Assyria; he build up walls of defense; he built up artillery.



Then he told Israel not to fear the Assyrians. The Lord and His hosts are stronger than any earthly army.


vs 27-22 The king of Assyria mocked the God of Israel and mocked the Israelites for trusting in Him. He boasted of his father's strength and his own might. He taunted the Israelites from all sides, until it was worrisome. Hezekiah and Isaiah turned to the Lord in prayer; and He sent an angel to destroy those who came against Israel. When Sennacherib returned to Assyria, his own children slew him.

Mannesseh, Hezekiah’s son reigned after him.

Manasseh reigns in wickedness and worships false gods—He is taken captive into Assyria—He repents and serves the Lord—Amon reigns in unrighteousness and is slain.

Vs 10-17 After Mannesseh dealt so wrongfully and built up all the evil things his father put away, he still wouldn't hearken to the Lord. Once he was brought into captivity, he repented and turned to the Lord and had his people do the same. They didn't get rid of the high places though.

Vs 20-25 Amon reigned after Mannesseh. Terrible evil like his father had been, but he wouldn't repent. His servants killed him. The people slew them. Josiah his son was king after him.

Josiah destroys idolatry in Judah—The people of Judah repair the house of the Lord—Hilkiah finds a book of the law—Huldah the prophetess reveals the desolations to come upon the people—Josiah and the people covenant to serve the Lord.

Vs 2 and entire chapter: Josiah was a wonderfully good leader. He got rid of idols and high places and put things right in the community, then he turned to repairing and sanctifying the house of the Lord.

Vs 14-16, 18-19 Josiah grieved for all the evil done in Israel because they had lost the law and not hearkened to it. He rent his clothes.

Vs 26-28 The Lord was pleased with Josiah, his humility, and the work he did among the people.

Vs 29-33 Josiah had all the people gather to the temple to teach them the law and to have them make covenants with the Lord.

Josiah and all Judah keep a most solemn Passover—Josiah is mortally wounded by the Egyptians at Megiddo.

Vs 5 Worshiping the Lord should be a family affair.

Vs 16-19 King Josiah helped return His peopel to the ordinances of the Lord. He obeyed the law and taught the people to do the same.

Vs 20-27 Was Josiah wrong to go to this war. It sounds like someone gave him counsel in the name of the Lord. But Josiah felt he had to still go. He was mortally wounded. All Israel love Josiah and greatly mourned him at his death.

Various kings rule in Judah—Nebuchadnezzar overruns Judah and makes Zedekiah king—Zedekiah rebels, the people reject the prophets, and the Chaldeans burn the temple and destroy Jerusalem—Cyrus of Persia decrees the building of the temple.

Vs 1-2 Jehoahaz, Josiah's son, was the next king.

Vs 3-5 The King of Egypt took Jehoaza to Egypt and made his brother the kind in Judah and Jerusalem. He changed his name from Eliakim to Jehoiakim. So he was the next king.

Nebuchadnezzer bound Jehoakim and took him to Babylon. Jehoiakim was an evil man.

Jehoiachin his son reigned in his stead, beginning at 8 years old. He reigned for just over three months, and did evil? Nebuchadnezzer took him to Babylon and made Zedekiah his brother king of Judah and Jerusalem.(20 years old)

Evil man, not humble before prophet Jeremiah. Rebelled against Nebuchadnezzer.

Vs 14-16 The people mocked the prophets. The Lord has respect to His prophets, and the people suffered great losses because of their wickedness and disobedience.

Vs 18-21 The people had departed from God and their temple was destroyed, their riches carried away. And they were slain and taken captive. They would not gain the Lord's favor again until they learned to keep the Sabbath day holy.

Vs 22-23 Cyrus king of Persia commanded that a house of the Lord again be built in Jerusalem.
