Personal Study
The Lord Can Be With Me
“Time and again, good fortune seemed to abandon Joseph, but the Lord never did.”
What have you done in times of trouble to stay nearer to the Lord? How have you felt the Lord’s presence with you in your struggles?
The Lord prospered all that Joseph did, even we he was in prison.
Remember how the Lord has sustained you in your trials and weakness. How can you prepare now for trials that may lay ahead? What can you do to have the Lord as your companion?

I Need to
Be Faithful
How do we receive revelations? It what ways do they come?
The Lord revealed truth to Joseph in dreams. He also gave him the ability to interpret dreams.
What insights have you gained from this lesson about receiving and understanding revelations from the Lord?
see Genesis 40:8; 41:16 It is the Spirit that will give us understanding. Put away pride; the revelations you receive are a gift from God.
Take time to ponder
how the Lord is revealing His will to you.
Are you being
submissive to the will of the Father? Are you acting on the
revelation you receive? Are you taking the Holy Spirit as your guide?
Do you seek for His guidance?
Escaping Temptation
What examples do we have from Joseph in resisting temptation?
What examples do we have from Jesus during His mortal ministry?
What things are you tempted with, and how do you seek the Lord’s help for deliverance?
He “refused” the advances of Potiphar’s wife (verse 8). Genesis 39
He recognized that sinning would offend God and others (verses 8–9).
He “hearkened not” to the temptation, even though it continued “day by day” (verse 10).
He “left his garment … and fled, and got him out” (verse 12).
Even though things looked bad for him, he chose the right.
Nephi prayed for help to overcome sin and temptation. We can read that in the Psalm of Nephi: 2 Nephi 4:18, 27–33
We need to have recognition of what Heavenly Father’s will is for us and of the things that we need to change in order to make a plan to avoid temptation.
How can I rely on Heavenly Father when temptations arise?
Temptation:
Why is chastity an important commandment to keep? How do we
learn to bridle our passions?

How did the Lord
bless the people of Egypt through Joseph? How are others blessed
through you?
How have the prophets told us to prepare for
times of want and emergency? Are you preparing?
“How could Joseph’s faithfulness in Egypt inspire you to stay faithful to the Lord in spite of adversity?”

Joseph
dreamed that his brother’s sheaves bowed to his. Then he dreamed
that the sun, the moon, and the eleven starts bowed to him.
Joseph,
at Jacob’s bidding, took food to his brothers in Dothan. They
wanted to kill him. Reuben didn’t want that to happen, so they cast
him into a pit. Judah thought they should get something for him, so
they sold him.
Reuben had planned to deliver Joseph from
the pit, but he was no longer there.
They
dipped his coat in blood and took it to his father. He mourned many
days; his sons pretended to comfort him...but they didn’t come
clean.
The Midianites sold Joseph to Potiphar.

Joseph was blessed by the Lord, and his master gave him charge over all his goods, because he saw that Joseph was blessed. The household was blessed because of Joseph.
Potiphar’s wife wants Joseph to sleep with her.
He refused and said,
9 There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?
12 And she
caught him by his garment, saying, Lie with me: and he left his
garment in her hand, and fled, and got him out.
“When
in doubt, get out!”
His wife made up a lie, saying that Joseph sought to make a mock of her.
20 And Joseph’s master took him, and put him into the prison, a place where the king’s prisoners were bound: and he was there in the prison.
21 ¶ But the Lord was with Joseph, and shewed him mercy, and gave him favour in the sight of the keeper of the prison.
22 And the keeper of the prison committed to Joseph’s hand all the prisoners that were in the prison; and whatsoever they did there, he was the doer of it.
23 The keeper of the prison looked not to any thing that was under his hand; because the Lord was with him, and that which he did, the Lord made it to prosper.

Pharaoh’s dreams:
There are first 7 fat cows, then seven skinny cows. The skinny cows eat the fat cows. Still skinny.
7 healthy ears of corn proceeded 7 miserable ears of corn. The 7 ill ones ate the good ones.
Pharaoh sought for interpreters; no one could. Then the butler told Pharaoh about Joseph interpreting his and the baker’s dreams.
Years of plenty and years of famine. Vs 2 dreams that are the same; established by God. It will come to pass.
Because Joseph had the spirit of prophesy and could tell Pharaoh what needed to be done, Pharaoh made him a ruler, second only to himself. Joseph married and had two sons during the 7 years of plenty.
